The DAV Alumni community is delighted to celebrate a significant literary milestone achieved by Mitra Samal, an alumna of the 1999 (10th Batch) of DAV Public School, Chandrasekharpur, whose latest poetry collection, Silence Has a Sound, was recently unveiled at Akshara – Voice of Women in Literature.

A poet, writer, and former IT consultant, Mitra has steadily carved a distinctive place for herself in contemporary literature. Her poems and short stories have been featured in renowned literary publications including The Hooghly Review, Muse India, Madras Courier, Kitaab, and Borderless, earning appreciation for their depth, sensitivity, and evocative storytelling.

Released at Akshara, a literary platform dedicated to celebrating the voices of women writers and organized by the Toshali Literature Trust in collaboration with the Odisha Sahitya Akademi, Silence Has a Sound marks an important chapter in her literary journey.

The collection comprises 90 poems, thoughtfully arranged into five thematic sections—Nostalgic Reflections, Realities, Celebrating Nature, Yearnings, and The Weight of Silence. Through these poems, Mitra explores the subtle emotions that often shape our lives: memory, loss, longing, resilience, and the quiet strength found in everyday experiences.

At its heart, Silence Has a Sound is an invitation to pause and listen—to discover meaning in moments often overlooked and to recognize that silence itself can carry stories, emotions, and truths. The collection reflects a mature literary voice that finds beauty in introspection and transforms ordinary experiences into profound reflections.
